Meditation Day 5: Become What You Believe – What You Identify With You Become

Today’s meditation really hit home for me, as it’s become a huge question mark, in terms of where I want my life to go.  I’m at a turning point where my gut is telling me that great things are going to happen but if I want them to happen, I have to do something about it.  So… how do I get there?

I’ve heard numerous times that “you have the power to be anything you want in life and it’s your decisions that get you there or not”.  I believe that’s only part of it.  I believe that your attitude is largely a driving factor.  For example, some people read this and think, “I’ve already made decisions that put me on the path I’m on, there’s no going back now.”  This statement is limiting and negative.  I believe that at any age, you can change the course of your life by making different decisions that help you to achieve your dreams, regardless of the path you are already on.

For me, I know I want to publish a novel (or two), I want my blog to continue to thrive, I want to write (and sell) at least one screenplay, I want to do well enough that I can continue to enjoy the lifestyle I’m accustomed to.  I want a partner in life, a beautiful home, and a family.  I want it all and I know I can have it.  But, am I taking the (incremental) steps to get there?  Do I BELIEVE in myself enough to get there?  Do I truly identify with the lifestyle I dream of? These are the questions you have to search deep inside yourself, grab the answers, and readjust your focus/dreams if necessary.

The exercise out of this practice is about writing down what you want your beliefs to look like five days, five weeks, and even five months from now.  My suggestion, write down what you believe you can do in these increments of time to get closer to your dreams, and continue to reevaluate as appropriate. Reevaluate not just how your beliefs have evolved, but also how much closer you are to achieving what you want to become.

I know it’s a lot of work but consider all of those people out there that you’ve looked at in your life and thought,  “I wish I had what they…” or “Good for them for doing x at x age!”  Believe it or not, these people you admire took the steps above to get to where they want to be.  They don’t believe in limiting statements, they believe they can do/be whatever they want, no matter the age!  I believe you only have one life to live, so why waste it?  Create a good story for yourself, be proud of who you are, and be someone others admire.
